Kilgore Student Pick-up Procedures

These are the recommended procedures for picking up your children at Kilgore Gifted Center. Please follow these procedures exactly and consistently.

Our parking lot is very crowded at drop-off and dismissal each day, so I wanted to write to share our rules and a map of the traffic flow.

You are expected to enter and exit the lot on Woodland Rd. Parents can also enter from Andrews but we ask that you please join the drop-off/pick-up line at the end.

Walkers: 

• Elementary walkers must accompany our staff member to the intersection of Woodland and Andrews where they will cross at the light.  

• Middle school walkers must also cross at this intersection. 

• No students should be crossing Woodland anywhere but at the Woodland-Andrews intersection.

• Security staff will work with parents to ensure compliance with these safety guidelines.

Parent Pickup:

• If your child can possibly ride a bus to school & back home, please allow them to do so.  The fewer cars we have in the lot in the afternoon, the better.

• Teachers cannot release elementary students if parents don’t have a Pick-Up Number.  You can get one in the cafeteria during Open House or in our Main Office during office hours.

• Please continue to drop off all students at the usual spot.  All students will be entering through the bus doors but no cars are allowed in the bus loop.

• The parking lot speed limit is 5 mph.  

• Please do not pick up students by stopping in traffic on Woodland or at the entrance to the bus lane.  This is not safe and it is a traffic violation.

• Elementary parents should get in the pickup line when they arrive.  They should stay in this line until the way is clear to exit.

• Middle school parents should find a parking space in the lot and wait for their students to come to the car.  We should not be waiting in traffic lanes to pick up students.

• We ask that parents enter the lot to pick up students. Please do not have your student cross the street to meet you.

• Finally, please make time to take your time at dismissal.  Be prepared to take the time to exit the lot safely.  If you have a pressing appointment, consider picking up your student early to avoid the congestion at dismissal.
